Cagayan de Oro City. Formerly known as the Kalambagohan and was then changed into Cagayan de Misamis was first inhabited by native people known to have lived through fishing along what is now called the Cagayan River. This place officially became a city on June 15, 1950and its name was changed to Cagayan de Oro through the efforts of Congressman Emmanuel Pelaez. He added "de Oro" to "Cagayan" in acknowledgment of the gold mining activities in the area known to Spanish explorers.

For just 2 hours of travel via airplane from Manila and 2 days sail via ship, this gateway to Northern Mindanao feasts your eyes with such remarkable sights, eye-catching views and lush green environment. Of course, not to mention the accommodating people meeting you at the airport upon arrival. This city lies at the central coast of this region and to the southern part, the city is bounded by the province of Bukidnon and Lanao Del Norte (also called Iligan City). The Municipality of Opol, Misamis Oriental limits the city on the west and Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental to the east. There lays to the north the Macalajar Bay facing the Bohol Sea. Its total land area is 488.86 km² on behalf of 13.9% of the entire province and its coastline runs for 25 kilometers.

Having an average temperature of 28 °C (82 °F), this tropical city is rarely visited by typhoons since it is outside the Pacific Typhoon belt. And in relation to that, a bigger part of the surface of Cagayan de Oro is classified as agricultural land which makes it possible to grow crops and manufacture agricultural businesses.

The ravine is thick with various species of plants and enormous trees; the Gaston Park and Saint Augustine Metropolitan Cathedral which is located in front of the San Agustin Metropolitan Cathedral. The park, renowned for its water fountain, is a much loved spot to unwind for many locals; Mapawa Nature Park, an ideal place for horseback riding, biking, zip line and nature trekking; the Gardens of Malasag Eco-Tourism Village, located in a reforested area in Malasag Hill. This 7 hectare village has duplications of tribal houses in the region and a panoramic view of Macajalar Bay; and lastly, who would ever forget the well-known Whitewater River rafting and kayaking providing you with a panoramic sight of the river’s rocky walls, untouched vegetation, and the sight of the resting haven of wildlife. It has breathtaking rapids that give the more adventurous with thrills and challenges of rapids.
